The New Year marks the beginning of resolutions. I decided there are only a couple of things you should never make resolutions for: losing weight and starting a gym membership. Everything else is pretty much fair game. For the past 2 years we have had “our goals” listed on our refrigerator. We try to update them every year (or every time we think we want something new) and I think this year will be the biggest update yet.
I heard about a “vision board” on Oprah years ago. They are successful because you are forced to look at your goals daily. This makes you more likely to achieve your goals because they are in your face- rather than in the back of your mind. I was sold on the idea and I think it’s working for us. We have met some of our goals in the past and no matter how big or small they are, it always feels great.
As of now, we have a bunch of goals for the short term and the long term. It feels good that most of our current goals revolve around our future rather than our present. We spent so long saying “we need this” and we don’t say that to those little things anymore. It took forever, but we have everything we need for us.
Everything except an addition to our family, a house and a new car for manfriend. We made sure to plan for vacations and things that are fun, but we are no longer planning for things like: new jobs, couches, new bed, pots and pans and knives, etc. We needed those things and now that we have everything we need, our goals just seem to revolve around what we need to experience our future together.
So here are our goals. This is the exact list we have on our refrigerator:
I suggest you make one. It’s fun, I promise! You don’t have to worry about adding things that seem petty or things that seem outrageously expensive. They are your goals, make them exciting and fun for you! We’ve already checked a lot of goals off of our list and our list seems to get smaller and smaller. I guess seeing our goals everyday is working…but we have a long way to go!
The New Year is all about setting goals and doing what is best in your life. Seeing our goals everyday makes me happy to know we are working on something. Some of the things on our list are more important to us than others and the journey to those goals will be tough- but well worth it!
